RESEARCH IN HEALTH MANAGEMENT, eHEALTH AND MEDICAL TOURISM

For research in the field of international healthcare management and eHealth, the E.H.E. EurAka University has established the European Medical Business Institute, in short EMBI as GAME-Partner. Focus of this institution is the investigation of fields related to healthcare and business.

The institute’s researchers explore eHealth and telemedicine, health and practice management as well as medical tourism and intercultural communication. There is also the possibility of pursuing doctoral studies or acquiring a habilitation qualification for practitioners working on business management issues in the medical field. Graduates occupy leading positions in larger medical or dental practices, care centres, clinics and hospitals or work as experts in the healthcare system (in companies, chambers, organisations, universities or administration). In the field of health management, the EMBI offers various study programmes.

Main research focus

The research work of the EMBI is positioned between the fields business & economics and the field of integral medicine and oriented towards an economically, ecologically and socially sustainable and responsible way of doing business. In addition, we collaborate internationally in interdisciplinary research fields beyond traditional faculty boundaries. This is reflected in our research and subject areas with the focus:

Practice and Healthcare Management

Research in the field of healthcare management - from the single practice over the multi-site healthcare centre to the hospital chain in both medicine and dentistry – aims to discover suitable management strategies for the very specific field of healthcare.

Medical Tourism and Medical Wellness

The field of medical tourism is growing in importance internationally. The institute’s research emphasizes on destination development, the medical treatment requirements of the international patient and adequate international services to meet the modern patient-customer’s needs. Further, aspects of health management including health insurance regulations and their adaptations are considered.

eHealth and Medical Informatics

At the institute, studies are conducted on the application of digital technologies in healthcare. The research focuses on telemedical services, self-care or independent disease prevention, the digital medical practice and internet healthcare treatments.

Intercultural Communication in a Medical Context

In the area of intercultural relationships, communication processes between healthcare professionals and patients are investigated, taking different cultures, values, norms, attitudes and language skills into account. The focus here is on the possibilities of providing information, counselling, understanding and developing common health concepts – also for medical tourism.

The research profile is extended by various scientific activities in the special research profiles of the individual faculty members according to their orientation.
